Places that are great to visit despite the food?
We found this discussion in our community and found the question hilarious.
Food is usually a good motivation while traveling, so we tend to pick places with amazing food like Mexico, Italy, Japan, Spain, Peru, Thailand, etc.
But we found this question funny, are there places that are absolutely amazing but the food isn't really that great?
This post isn't aimed at showing less appreciation to food or certain countries, but we all know some cultures are more food-centric than others, and that is okay, differences are what make our world great. Let's hear some answers.
What are the places to visit where food isn't that good ?
From our users opinions:
Costa Rica
the most amazing country for the wildlife and rainforest experiences. Though they grow incredible produce, the food is pretty bland. They are not a food-centric culture.
Bolivia
Amazing geography. Go to Salar de Uyuni, absolutely recommended. Amazing amazon rainforest, has high mountains and volcanoes. The food is boring.
Switzerland
Once you're past fondue and raclette (which obviously you can't have for every meal), the rest of the food is okay, but my god is it expensive!
Iceland
think there is decent food in Iceland, but I’m not personally a fan of traditional Icelandic food. Most of the good food I had was at expensive haute cuisine restaurants serving international style. And it was obviously very expensive. Food in Reykjavík is good if there were fresh seafood options but elsewhere can be difficult.
United Kingdom
I enjoyed vacationing, particularly in Scotland. But the only way I survived food-wise was by eating at "Curry Houses", which is apparently what they call Indian and related restaurants (it appeared to be a catch-all name, whether the owners were Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan etc.)
Colombia
Colombia is an amazing country to travel around, and the cuisine can be good, but still basic. While ingredients and fruits are great and super fresh, dishes lack some taste. Colombia has so much competition around so when compared to neighbouring countries like Peru or Venezuela it is lacking.
Do you agree with those opinions ? Would you add something to this list ?
