My favorite food in New York
I decided to share my top spots in NYC.
Some years ago, while traveling a lot to the US I got the chance to explore new york.
NY is big city that has something for everyone, but this list represents the places I would definitely go again when visiting the city.
1. Katz's Delicatessen
It was my first time in NYC, when I stepped on the Lower East Side, I remembered a legendary sandwich place.
While going through the lively streets and before heading to the Statue of Liberty and doing the touristy stuff, I took a small detour to Katz's Delicatessen. And god, was I grateful for taking that detour, it's one of the best breakfasts I've ever had.
Katz is known for its pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, Katz's doesn't just serve food; it tells the tale of New York's rich cultural heritage. I savored their iconic "When Harry Met Sally" sandwich and believe me, it would be the first thing I want to try again if I ever visit NY again.
2. Levain Bakery - Cookie cookie? Allow essential cookies ?
I'm a fan of sweets so this one was also a nice finding. If you're exploring the Upper West Side, then you should make a stop to Levain Bakery.
The aroma of freshly baked goods will captivate you. I got some of the best chocolate chip cookies ever. The gooey center and crispy exterior, that crunch + soft combination. Good times.
3. Shake Shack - Classic Burgers and Shakes
While this is a classic I had long ago. I'd now go only for the memories. Since Shake Shack is available nowadays in seeral cities.
I did this in the Flatiron District while on my way to the Twin Towers Memorial. It is always good to have a burger and fries (except when on a diet, probably)
4. Di Fara Pizza - Brooklyn's Pizza Haven
Venturing into Brooklyn, while heading to the Brooklyn Bridge, I discovered Di Fara Pizza, a hidden gem for pizza enthusiasts.
The wait can be long, but if youre lucky you will get to try a traditional New York-style pizzas that is worth it. This one is a must for any pizza lover out there.
5. Eataly NYC Flatiron
Embarking on a journey through the neighborhoods near Union Square, I stumbled upon Eataly NYC Flatiron. The Italian marketplace offered a gastronomic adventure with its diverse restaurants, counters, and cafes. Before heading to Central Park, I sampled pasta, pizza, and gelato.
6. Momofuku Noodle Bar
This one was my girlfriend's idea. Since we've had plenty of Pizza already we decided to look for something different. We heard about Momofuku Noodle Bar ad decided to give it a chance.
David Chang's culinary empire began here, and the menu boasted delights like the famous pork buns and flavorful ramen. If you're a fan of noodles and ramen this is highly recommended.
7. Russ & Daughters - A nice eating spot
Immersing myself in the Lower East Side's I also spotted Russ & Daughters, a century-old store. This famous spot served bagels, lox, and smoked fish.
You can't say you've been in the US if you've never tried a Bagel.
8. Gramercy Tavern - Michelin-Starred fanciness.
This was also my girlfriend's idea. NYC boasts a lot of good and fancy restaurants, so why not indulge once in a while and try somewhere cozy to forget all the walking and sightseeing. Food is amazing and ambience is great. I would skip on my next trip since I've already been there, but at least it's good to try once.
9. Japantown (East Village) - Did I find Japanese heaven?
Head to Japantown. No, really, head there ! From ramen to sushi, the neighborhood offered a lot of culinary delights. Don't miss out on Ippudo and Sake Bar Decibel for an immersive Japanese dining experience.
10. Joe's Pizza - A list can't be complete without a lot of Pizza.
No culinary journey in New York is complete without a classic slice of pizza, and Joe's Pizza in Greenwich Village became my final stop. Since 1975, this spot has been serving up fantastic, thin-crust pizza that captures the essence of the city's pizza culture.
Extra: 11. Lombardi's Pizza - The Birthplace of American Pizza
Everytime I've gone to NYC I go to Lombardi's. That's how much I love pizza.
It is known as the birthplace of American pizza. There might be some waiting time, but you can always get it to go.
Did I tell you I once had a layover in NYC and went to Lombardi's while waiting for my next plane ? That's how good the pizza is.
